NEWS– The Cordinator for Wealth Creation Gen Caleb Akandwanaho has urged Members of Parliament to support the government initiative to industrialise the country as the only sure way of creating employment opportunities for the youth.
Gen Salim Saleh as he is commonly known made the appeal September 20th 2022, at Kapeka Industrial Park in Namunkekera in Nakaseke District.
The Kapeka industrial park is located on a private land which was donated by Gen Salim Saleh to Chinese Investors who have since established 20 factories producing different products for use in Uganda and others are exported to neighbouring countries like Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda, Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan.
The Members of Parliament on Trade and Industry led by the chairman Hon Mwine Mpaka were on tour of Kapeka industrial Park to establish it status and how has helped Ugandans since it was established in 2014.
The Industrial Park produces modern ceramic tiles, household products like toilet seats and plates and also fishing nets among others and employs over 9000 people directly of which over 90% are Ugandans.
The tour was also joined by the Minister of Investment Hon Evelyn Anite, the Chairman Board Uganda Investment Authority, Morrison Rwakakamba and Director General Robert Mukiza.
The Members of Parliament were taken on a guided tour of the Kapeka Industrial Park where they were given first hand experience on how the Uganda raw materials are processed into finished products ready for domestic use and much more for export.
Speaking to journalists after the tour and meeting with Gen Salim Saleh, Hon Mwine Mpaka said that they were impressed with what is going on and will lobby for infrastructural development.
Hon Mpaka said that the Kapeka Industrial Park although, was not established by government, has greatly contributed to the country’s economic development and it’s the duty of the Members of Parliament to ensure that this is sustained by providing all the necessary support in form of infrastructural development.
The role of government through the various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) that have facilitated investments in the park was also highlighted and recognized.
For Uganda Investment Authority, this was a momentous occasion as it is reflective of the incredible job done through coordination of the various government entities and facilitation and aftercare to investors in Uganda.
Minister Anite observed that Kapeka Industrial Park, is a classical example of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni massage of establishment of a self sustaining economy and has become a springboard for establishment of the 25 industrial parks across the country.
Kapeka Industrial Park, Namunkekera sits on a 20 acre of land and the lead organisation, Liao Shen Industrial Park is active, out of about 20 which are now operational.
