Rukungiri woman, granddaughter strangle head of family, hang him on guava tree

NEWS– The Police in Rukungiri district have detained two suspects on allegations of strangling an 88 year old man to death.

ASP Elly Maate the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson identifies the deceased as Wilson Kabarande a resident of Kiguha Cell, Kahoko Parish in Nyakageme sub county, Rukungiri district.

Maate identifies the suspects as Kellen Tindizira, the wife of the deceased and her granddaughter Akatwijuka Sheila, a tailor, all residents of the above address.

According to Police, on Tuesday September 27 at around 1:37hrs, the deceased’s wife Tindizira reported a case of suicide by handing at Rwerere Police post alleging that he was sick and that the Previous night at around 9PM left his marital bed to rest outside with a bed sheet after feeling much heat in the house.

Maate adds that the wife told Police that shortly, she moved outside to check on him and found he was already dead hanging on a bed sheet in a guava tree.

However, when Police visited the scene, it was doubtable that the deceased hanged himself because the neck was not stiff and the body was in kneeling position, while the guava tree was too young, small and not bent, neither broken, plus the mouth and eyes all were closed without any sign of hanging in the neck.

ASP Maate told this reporter that on such suspicions that the two were arrested for questioning, the body was taken to Rwakabengo Health Centre III mortuary for post mortem examination.

The case of murder by strangulation has since been registered at Rukungiri Central Police Station on Reference number CRB 975/2022.
