NEWS– Ntungamo District Students’ leaders under their umbrella body of Uganda National Students Association (UNSA) have elected new leadership.

UNSA is an Umbrella organization for all students in post primary institutions in Uganda and each district in Uganda has a Secretariat for UNSA.

While addressing the students during the Ntungamo District UNSA delegates Convention held at Kyamate Secondary school Multipurpose Hall on Saturday, the speaker of Uganda National Students Association (UNSA) NEC representative Agaba Kenneth Ankunda cited lack of orientation and sensitization as one the most bottlenecks that are affecting the performance and relevance of the Association at the district level across the country.

Ankunda noted that most of the students see it as irrelevant to subscribe to Uganda National Students Association (UNSA) because their leaders were not oriented and inducted on the principles of association.

He tasked the head teachers and patrons to engage the students in decision making such that they can debate on the issues affecting them at schools.

The Ntungamo District Education officer Fred Bahati who is also the UNSA patron challenged the new leadership to be a bridge between students and administration instead of being reactionary forces to fight against the school.

Bahati asked the UNSA leaders to be the ears and eyes of their schools as the only way to avert indiscipline cases that have caused strikes in many schools.

The UNSA district coordinator Bemanya Alfred thanked the schools and patrons for subscribing to the association and participating in it’s activities. However, Bemanya condemned immorality in some schools asking the leaders to fight aggressively to stop the vice.

The Head teacher Kyamate SS Arinaitwe Emmanuel implored the new leaders to eradicate inter schools conflicts which are rampant in the district, crippling their development.

Kamugisha Marvelous of Muntuyera High School won the UNSA Chairmanship for Ntungamo branch after trouncing Nickson Niwandinda of Kyamate Secondary School with a margin difference of 2 votes.

The outgoing chairperson, Nyakahitana Jonan called on fellow students to embrace leadership saying that they are present leaders and for the future.
