UPDF speaks out about the attack at Gadaffi Barracks


KAMPALA– The Uganda Peoples Defence Forces Spokesman Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye has appealed for calm following the attack on Gadaffi Barracks last night where one soldier was strangled and later shot dead by the assailants. 

According to a statement issued today afternoon and signed by Brig Kulayigye, the attack took place last evening at around 8.00 pm at Gadaffi Barracks Jinja Contonment in Jinja City. 

Brig Kulayigye named the deceased soldier as RA/110575 Sergeant Simon Peter Eyagu who together with his colleague Lance Corporal Norico Kibirige were guarding Ambercourt Road close to Gadaffi Barracks. 

Its reported that the unidentified assailants struck when Kibirige has left the scene to buy a drink at nearby shops and the assailants managed to flee with two guns.

Brig Kulayigye said that an attack on the securi6will meet the necessary retaliation and two people he did not name have been arrested over the attack to help in investigations. 

“We are working closely with the Uganda Police Force (UPF) and other security agencies to apprehend these criminals ” Brig Kulayigye said.

Brig Kulayigye appeled to Jinja residents and Ugandans at large to remain calm as these acts of criminality shall be dealt with decisively like they have done before.

Brig Kulayigye has meanwhile said that the UPDF is condoled with the family of the fallen soldier Sgt Eyagu Simon Peter whose life was cut short while protecting other Ugandans.
