ULS Honorary Secretary assumes duty as North Kigezi Diocese Vice Chancellor


RUKUNGIRI- North Kigezi Diocese has created a new position of the Diocesan Vice Chancellor which has been filled by the Honorary Secretary of Uganda Law Society Counsel Atukunda Isaac.

He assumed the position of Honorary Secretary at recent Uganda Law Society elections and will serve a one year term.

North Kigezi Diocese covers the geographical area of current  Rukungiri District and Emeritus Bishop Patrick Tugume Tusingwire is the Caretaker following the death of Bishop Benon Magezi who died in 2021 before completing his term in office.


Atukunda is a budding Kampala City Lawyer and was born to Katahwire Jacob and Jovanisi Katahwire of Nyamizi village in Kyatoko Ward, Eastern Division of Rukungiri Municipality.

Atukunda went to Kyatoko Primary School and later joined Makobore High School Kinyasano in Rukungiri District for his O Level education before joining Standard High Shool  Zzana on Entebbe Road for his A Level and later joined Makerere University for Bachalors of Law(LLB) and and then Law Development Center for where he obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice.

Atukunda started his career as Lecturer of Law at Kampala International University from 2008 and later became a Managing Partner at Credo Advocates since 2017 after which he founded Orchids Herbal Tea Restaurant which is located at Garden City Mall in Kampala since 2018.

Atukunda also founded Kyatoko Investment Club which is a group of people hailing from Kyatoko and the Investment Club currently has a net worth of over Ugx 180 million.

He recently coordinated a fundraising for Kyatoko Church of Uganda where the Banyakyatoko mobilised over Ugx 100 million for the construction of the Church.

As Vice Chancellor of the North Kigezi Diocese, Atukunda will Co-Chair a 15 member committee to search for the new Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese. 

The 15 Member Search Committee will submit the vetted names to the House Bishops who will elect one to become the Bishop of the diocese to replace the late Bishop Benon Magezi later this year.
