RUKUNGIRI! Primary School teacher killed by flooded Mineera river, body still missing


NEWS– Authorities, well-wishers and residents of Kiteme village in Ihunga parish, Nyarushanje sub county in Rukungiri district are currently camping at Mineera river tracing one of the residents who was whisked away by the river that burst it’s banks.

The regrettable incident happened on Wednesday morning when the river burst its banks and flooded Mineera bridge that connects Nyarushanje and Buyanja sub counties as well as Kebisoni town council.

The deceased has since been identified by residents as Micheal Tumwesigye 39, a teacher at Kebisoni Integrated Primary School who by the time of incident was travelling on his motorcycle number UDM 665U when he was swapt away by the raging water.

Spenser Muhangire a resident who spoke to our reporter from the scene said that the ill-fated motorcycle and a bag containing marked exams have been recovered but the rider was still missing by press time.

Muhangire noted that the river has always burst its banks during rainy seasons and the government has always paid a deaf ear to their repeated calls for intervention.

Micheal Musiime the Nyarushanje Sub County Chairperson intimated to our reporter that they were still searching Tumwesigye’s body.

Musiime vowed to continue presenting the issue of persistent flooding to higher authorities noting that however much it may take, but the government will finally intervene.
