KAMPALA– The management of Team University has appointed His Eminence the most Rev. Leonard Lubega Kyomya the chairperson University council replacing Hon. Lady Justice Christine Kitumba the founding chairperson who retired last month after serving in this capacity for 15 years.

His Eminence Leonard Lubega Kyomya took the mantle of University council chairperson on Thursday 24th November 2022.

Among other things, he was tasked to speed up the construction of the main campus at Sentema about 20km from the main city in Kampala so that the next graduation takes place at the new main campus since the University has expanded.

The vice chancellor, Prof. Lutaro Bossa said there is a serious need of shifting to a bigger site that can accommodate the growing number of graduates.

“This year alone in February and October, we graduated over 3,600 students and we hope the number will keep increasing and that we need a big space for the function,” he said.

He added that another challenge is to promote the use of IT systems to support flexible E_ learning, virtual learning that will also increase in numbers.

“With this new technology, some candidates will acquire skills and competencies while seated in their offices and sitting rooms through E and Virtual learning systems,” he said.

He added that the other challenge is to expand the Science faculty that is already in place i.e Engineering and health sciences which need permanent home at Sentema.

His Eminence Dr. Leonard Lubega said since he has been on the committee for some time, he will continue from where they had reached with the outgoing chairperson.

“What you’re raising here is not new, we had it in our plans, it’s a matter of implementing them and we shall do,” he said.

He praised the management and staff of Team University for training students the methods of getting to the root cause of shortage of jobs in the public sector and creating the room for them to get what to do, not necessarily waiting for the government to give them jobs.

Other members of the University council include Dr. Christine Kirungi Tasobya vice chairperson, Arthur Mpairwe, Nono Walter, Daphine Abasa, Dr. Florence Nampiija, Abasi Rutaro, Dr. Gilbert Gumoshabe, Jolly Uzamukunda, Moses Mukibi, prof. Lutaro Bosa, Deo Kirumira and the University secretary Evelyn Hope Kyokunda.

The vice Chancellor, Prof Lutaro Bbosa said that the institution was licensed to offer degrees in 2015 and so far thousands of learners have got their honors from here and they are in the world of work doing very well.

“I don’t know any of our former students who are just there doing nothing because the way we equip them, they must get what to do after their course of study,” he said.

Bbosa said Team University is entirely private and it depends on the merger funds they get from parents which they use perfectly to run every day’s work.
