BREAKING: Panic in Uganda as Tour Guide Is Isolated in Kanungu Over Coronavirus

KANUNGU- Suspected coronavirus case has been registered in the South Western district of Kanungu.

According to Kanungu District Health Inspector the suspect (Names withheld on request) is a tour guide and resident of Kameme in Kihihi Sub County, Kanungu District.

Information carefully obtained and verified by from competent sources both in Kanungu and Kampala indicate that the suspect is isolated at Kihihi Health Centre IV in Kihihi Town Council.

The Suspected patient is reported to have started feeling unwell on March 11th 2020 but he reported himself to the facility on Saturday March 14th 2020.

The Kanungu Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Hajji Shaffique Ssekandi told our reporter that he heard little information about the case and referred the reporter to Mr. Kato Besisira the District Health Inspector.

According to Mr. Besisira who is also the Kanungu District Senior Environmental Health Officer, said that the patient who is now in Isolation Unit reported to the facility with chest pain, flue, cough and colds which translate to similar case with coronavirus.

Besisira told this website that on arrival the patient was immediately isolated at the facility under supervision of the Health Unit In-charge and other facility staff.

Besisira said that the Tour guide had confided to them that in the past two weeks he had been travelling with Canadian tourists where they now suspect that his condition could have originated from.

“We have already communicated with Medical Teams International in Matanda and the Ministry of Health about the case and we are sending his blood samples to Virus Research Institute (UVRI) in Entebbe on Sunday March 15th 2020 to confirm the tests” Mr. Besisira added.

Dr Stephen Ssebudde the Kanungu District Health Officer accepted having received the information and said he was still following up on the matter.

“I have received the news but we’re still investigating to establish the real truth behind this whether true but the confirmation will be availed soon” Mr Ssebude asserted.

When contacted by our reporter for a comment, Emmanuel Ainebyoona the health ministry’s publicist told our reporter that they are still verifying the information.

Uganda stands at a high risk of contracting the scourge (COVID-19) after her neighbors i.e Kenya, Rwanda, Democratic Republic of Congo and Sudan have already confirmed their first cases of corona virus.  

Coronavirus was first heard about in Wuhan city of China in December 2019.
