KAMPALA- The Chief Justice Bart Magunda Katureebe has today morning June 22nd 2020, officially handed over his office to his Deputy Owiny Dollo Chigamony at brief function at his office in Kampala.
Justice Katureebe vacated the office of the Chief Justice which he occupied since 2015, after clocking the mandatory retirement age of Judges of Supreme Court at 75 years.
According to the Constitution of Uganda, the Chief Justice relinquishes his or her office after attaining the mandatory retirement age.
Justice Owiny Dollo Chigamony will occupy the Office of the Chief Justice in acting position until President Museveni appoints the substantive Chief Justice who will be vetted by the Parliament.
Justice Bart Katureebe retires at a time when President Museveni recently assented to a bill of Judicial Administration which spells out the benefits of Retired Chief Justice and his Deputy which mandates the retired officers to be given salaries and other retirement benefits for life.
Justice Bart Katureebe replaced Justice Benjamin Odoki in 2015, who had replaced long serving Justice Wako Wambuzi.
