Mob lynches suspected Goat thief in Rubanda

RUBANDA- The Police in Rubanda District have instituted Investigations into the death of a 32 year old man who was lynched after he was found with alleged stolen goats.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate said that Birungi Nicholas was a resident of Kihengamo in Nyamweru Sub County in Rubanda District.

According to the LC1 Chairman of Kigaana village in Nangara Parish also in Nyamweru Sub County, Turyahikayo Geofrey, the deceased together with another man identified as Twijukye Julius were intercepted by the residents with stolen goats and were seriously beaten.

It’s reported that by the time the Police arrived at the scene of crime Birungi had saccummbed to the beatings while Twijukye was left unconscious.

However, the Police recovered 4 goats which the residents had intercepted from the suspects and they were taken as exhibits.

Maate said that Twijukye Julius who was still alive was rushed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital in critical condition and also the body of the deceased was also taken to the Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem to be carried out.

Maate said that no arrests were made but he condemned the mob for taking the law into their hands and warned that whoever is found to have been instrumental in the mob justice will be arrested and be charged accordingly.

The case was registered at Rubanda District Central Police Station under reference number CRB 357/2020 to help in further investigation.
