MOGADISHU- Two Uganda Peoples Defence Forces have tested positive for Coronavirus and they are undergoing treatment in the Somali Capital City Mogadishu while 9 others who got into contact with the positives have been put under quaranitine.
According to the UPDF Deputy Spokesman Lt. Col Deo Akiiki, the Task forces on Base Camp and the Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) have been constituted to handle the Coronavirus pandemic.
Col Akiiki said that hand wash points have been installed in Base Camp & Forwad Ooperating Bases (FOB) and all shops except banks have been closed
Lt. Col Akiiki said that Base Camp where UPDF main base is located is under total lockdown for 2 weeks following the testing of 2 officers who were found positive.
The Deputy UPDF Spokesman said that all gathering have bn suspended and said that if Contingent Commander need meet the soldiers, social distancing must observed.
“We have distributed booklets on Coronavirus awareness and mitigation measures in Base Camp and the Forward Operating Bases and we have put in plac measures to minimize movements of soldiers and also imposed curfew from 1800hrs – 0500hrs” Col Akiiki said.
He also said that disinfectants, hand sanitizers, face masks have bn distributed to all officers while Internal passenger flights were also suspended except those moving cargo, or evacuating casualties and the dead.
Lt. Col Akiiki said that an isolation facility Hospital has been designated to take care of any cases that may come up.
