KAMPALA- The Prime Minister Dr Livingstone Ruhakana Rugunda has today April 4th flagged off the distribution of relief food to the urban needy residents in Kampala and Wakiso Districts despite Parliament demand to halt the exercise.

Dr Ruhakana Rugunda was this morning seen at Nansana Municipality Playgrounds in Wakiso District where he launched the exercise as earlier announced.

Dr Rugunda was accompanied by the Minister of Health Dr Ruth Jane Aceng and other Officials from the Prime Minister’s office and Ministry of Health.

The needy Ugandans who have been identified by their area LC 1 Executives are expecting to get 6kg of posho, 3kgs of beans, and a packet of salt while breastfeeding and pregnant mothers will get an additional 2kgs of sugar and milk.

Minister of Health Dr Ruth Jane Aceng witnessed the launch of Government Food Distribution Exercise to support vulnerable urban families.

However, Parliament of Uganda in its sitting yesterday passed a resolution asking the Government not to roll out the food distribution exercise unless it’s well planned to cover the whole country but not few selected districts.

However, this has been sidestepped by the Prime Minister’s office which rolled out the exercise today.

According to Dr Rugunda, 1.5 million people are expected to benefit from the relief food in Kampala and Wakiso.Present at the brief function was the Minister of Health Dr Jane Ruth Aceng, Minister of Information and national guidance Hon Judith Nabakooba and Government Chief Whip Ruth Nankabirwa.
