KAMPALA- World record trend setter and long distance runner, Joshua Cheptegei has been recognised by MTN Uganda, the telecom service provider has offered the world-class athlete Ugx 123,536,000 and regular monthly data plus voice bundles to last him an entire year.

Both prizes symbolize the new 12.35.36 world record time that was achieved by the legendary athlete.
Joshua Cheptegei broke Kenenisa Bekele’s 16-year-old world record last month at the Diamond League by setting a new 5,000 metres world record of 12:35.36 shuttering the old one which stood at 12:37.35.
Champion Cheptegei expressed his gratitude to MTN for promoting sports and athletics in Uganda.
The athlete acknowledged that his tough experience and criticism that he faced during the World Cross Country competition that was held here in Kampala in 2017 compelled him to double his efforts.
“Your criticism has made me who I am today. It has made me discover the potential I had. It made me understand that I was somebody who is really courageous,” he revealed.
Adding that; “With that from 2017, I went on to become a Silver medalist in the World Championships behind Mo Farah. Set-backs are important and they propel to something great. A man stands a test of challenges but those are the things that make better people,” Chepetegei said.
