KABALE- A 23 year old Rwandan waragi smuggler has been shot dead by the Rwanda security forces on the Uganda border for illegal entry into their land.
According to Elly Maate the Kigezi Regional Police spokesman, a group of about 10 waragi smugglers were on Friday night November 20th 2020 at around 21hours ambushed by a Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) and Rwanda police at Nyakena village, Kivuye Sub County, Bulera district in Rwanda approximately 100m from the border with Uganda.
The security operatives opened fire at them injuring three and they ran back into Uganda.
However on their way back, at approximately half a kilometre from the boarder at Muguri village, one victim Kyaboobo Bizumuremye a resident of Sebukuma village Musenda parish Gatebe sub county Burera district in Rwanda, died instantly as he was being rushed to one of the health centres inside Uganda by his fellow smugglers who had survived.
Maate adds that, the other injured duo was rushed to Rubaya HC4 for further management and later transferred to Kabale referral hospital while the deceased has also been taken to the hospital mortuary for postmortem.
“I want to condemn this act and assure the public that the perpetuators of the law will always face arrest and be accountable to their deeds” Police spokesman Elly Maate told the press.
The police in Uganda managed to arrest five other to help in investigations and for illegal entry into Uganda at Kabale Central Police station vide SD 21/21/11/2020.
Those in Police detention are Broshimana Taodore 19, Manirafashe Bosco 22, Aron Nagitimana 18, Kasasira Jabiriimasi 17 and Habyarimana Jandamuru 17 year all Rwandan nationals.
