SKULL AND SKELETON: A Woman's dead body killed by running water is finally recovered - 5 months later

KAMPALA- The woman whose body was eroded by a gush of running water into an open drainage channel during a heavy downpour has eventually been retrieved after a lengthy 5-month spell of waiting.

The deceased, Cissy Namukasa, a 56-year-old lady on May 2, earlier this year tragically fell into the drainage channel at Nakawa’s traffic lights and was subsequently killed by running water.

The body was recovered on Saturday from Kanyogoga zone in Namuwongo by Kasumba Suliman, 73, who came across human remains (skull and skeleton) and a jacket that the deceased was putting on.

Namukasa’s remains have been transferred to the Mulago city mortuary pending DNA analysis.

Legal Brains Trust, a democracy and human rights watchdog, sued Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) and the Attorney General in connection with the drowning of Namukasa, for failure to enforce a clear plan to protect city dwellers from loss of life, limb and property as a result of unsafe and hazardous roads, drainage channels, sewers and related infrastructure.

Legal Brains Trust sought compensation to the tune of Shs 500m for Namukasa’s family.
