Taxi brokers arrested for flouting Presidential directives on COVID-19 in Kabale

KABALA- The Police in Kabale have on Monday Morning October 12th 2020 in connection with Taxi Park leaders conducted an operation towards taxi brokers operating around Kabale UNRA Taxi Park and Butobere junction where 12 of them were arrested.

During the presidential directives on opening transport activities, he discouraged brokers from plying their trade in taxi and bus parks to reduce congestion as one of the measures to prevent and fight the spread of the pandemic.

According to Elly Maate the Kigezi region Police spokesman, brokers have not only been arrested for flouting the presidential directives but also grabbing people and their property without knowing their health status.

Maate adds that during the scuffle, some passengers’ property have been reported getting lost.

“They negotiate money with passengers and remain behind which at times causes complaints, among other things” Maate told the press in a statement.

Maate adds that they have been warned to desist from doing the same and asked to disseminate the same information to their other colleagues.

Police say the operations will continue until they themselves come to order.
