Uganda registers 2 new Coronavirus deaths, tally hits 9

KAMPALA- The Ministry of Health has confirmed 2 more Coronavirus deaths rising tally to 9 deaths.

The Two fatalities are a 27 year old male from Kyangwali refugee settlement in Hoima District who died at Hoima Regional referral hospital and a 46 year old male, resident of Kampala who died at Nsambya hospital.

They both had signs and symptoms consistent with COVID-19 and results from the laboratories confirmed SARS-COV-2.

Additionally the Ministry of Health has confirmed 14 new cases from samples tested on Sunday August 8th 2020. Of the new cases, 9 are contacts, 3 are alerts and 2 are truckers.

The 9 are contacts to previously confirmed cases from Kampala Metropolitan Area.

Of the 3 alerts, one is from Kampala Metropolitan Area; one is from Ntungamo district and one from Hoima district who succumbed to the disease.

Of the two (2) truck drivers, one arrived from Kenya via Malaba while one arrived from Democratic Republic of Congo via Goli point of entry.

The total cumulative confirmed cases of Ugandans is 1,297 and 1,137 recoveries with 9 deaths.
