Voting gone bad! 2 hospitalized after brutal assault by police, soldiers in violent election

NTUNGAMO- At least two people have remained hospitalized following minor surgeries on their lower abdomen after they were assaulted by policemen and soldiers during a violent election in Kafuno- Mirama town council on Tuesday.

The two John Byaruhanga of Mirama and Elly Abudul Muhamed ailas Kilo-igana are admitted at Ntungamo municipal clinic of Dr Triphon mugisha after attaining severe injuries as a result of assault.

The duo accuse a police officer ASP Alex Turyahikayo whose father Mr James Turyahikayo Habineza was standing and won the NRM flag against Mr Turyakira Bashir Omar for the town council mayor slot.

Turyakira was arrested by police in Ntungamo on Wednesday but later released on police bond under file Ntungamo SD 02/16/09/2020.

Byaruhanga said he was attacked by Turyakira and a group of people accusing him of supporting Omar beating him and piercing him with a gun’s bayonet on his tummy. 

He was later brought to Ntungamo where he is still hospitalized. The Ntungamo district police commander Damian Katwesime has confirmed the incident and said police are still investigating the case and many others resulting from elections.
